Hello there,
I wondered if it’s somehow possible to make it so that my members can search for other members that is currently online..
It’s a dating site where I want members to basically be able to search for online persons from the same town that is searching for the same things..
I’ve gotten everything to work so far except for that fact that I don’t know if it’s possible to set online status as a search criteria?
Thank in advance!
Hi Axel,
No, a specific search field for ‘online status’ is not available, but you can get the same information ordering your search results by ‘last active’.
Long explanation:
Actually BuddyPress can’t tell whether any user is ‘online’, it only knows when the user was ‘last active’. If the user was active in the last few minutes, you can guess he/she is still ‘online’, i.e. looking at your dating site.
That said, when you do a search you can order the results by ‘last active’, and you’ll get the most recently active users as your top results. If they have been active in the last few minutes, probably some of them are still ‘online’.
