Hello! I want my results to always be in order of a numeric field that I’ll call “points”. I want users with more “points” to be better ranked on the platform.
Therefore, if I search for “City”, the order of users from the same city will be listed in order according to the number of points of each user.

You can use the shortcode
[bps_directory order_by="field_345"]where 345 is replaced by your actual field ID.
In order to sort your search results, you’ll need to select the new sort option from the Order By drop-down in your members directory.
