BP Profile Search › bps_directory replaces entire page

In versions <5 it was possible to use bps_directory shortcode to replace only a part of a page, i.e. it was possible to have the directory in a sidebar or in any other place.
Since 5.x this seems not possible anymore?
How to revert back to the old behaviour?

The only way to restore the old behaviour is to keep using BP Profile Search 4.9.8.
The old shortcode has a few major bugs, for instance it doesn’t work with BP Nouveau, while the new shortcode uses the same code used by BuddyPress to generate the directory.
In this way it works fine but, as BuddyPress does, it replaces the entire page content area.
That’s very sad… It worked perfect as a shotcode on any part of the page…
