    Hi there,

we are building a large site with BuddyPress and WP Job Mananager and so one big feature is the possibility to look for candidates by searching the job related infos from their profiles. There are a few multiline text fields, where customers can post some information like “About me” or “I am searching for”.
Right now we can either set these fields as “contains” or “is like” in a search. But the users can only search for one expression at a time. Even if I use “is like” and use %expression1%expression2%, this only searches the two expression in that particular order.
Is there any way to search for several expressions in no specific order? So this would work like “contains expression1 AND expression2” or “contains expression1 OR expression2”. Or it could work like “is like expression1 AND expression2” but in no particular order.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hello Michael,

The new feature you are suggesting is interesting, and I’d like to add it to BP Profile Search. I’m not sure how difficult that would be, so please allow me a few days to think about it and I’ll get back to you on this thread.

Starting with BP Profile Search 4.9.3, AND and OR search expressions are accepted in search fields as suggested by Michael. Please try them and let me know!

Let’s say you have a search field City, you can enter:

Paris OR London OR New York

and you’ll find the members living in one of those cities.

Or, if you have a search field Name contains you can enter:

    Rob AND Milly

and you’ll find the members whose name is Robert S. Millygan, or Camilly Jane Frobisher, or Milly Ann Robes, and so on.
