HELP! I am building a revamped site in a new template (as a subsite currently) but need to tweek the search. The public will be using our search function in the directory strictly to look for a person’s name. I want it to only return results found by searching JUST first and last name fields ONLY. For instance if you go the the Directory http://avhof.org/test/members/membership-directory/
and search the name Young (we have 2 members with that name) but you get anyone who has the word young in their bio. That gives you 25 results, 23 of which I don’t want.I swear I had this conquered when I started the site last spring but now I see I don’t.

I suggest you remove the existing search from your directory template, and install BP Profile Search, which allows you to build a custom search form according to your needs.

Maybe I’m not setting the form up right? I swear it had been working but a few months later now it’s not. I really need to solve this or it will keep me from migrating the site to replace he old one soon.I think I understand. I need to swap out the Buddypress search on the directory template page with your search shortcode?

Were you able to display your form in your Members directory page? If not, simply enable the Add to Directory option in the Form Settings box.
