    Hi Andrea,

    It’s me again 🙂

I am struggling now with another issue.
I added captcha plugin (by websoft) and the captcha doesn’t appear in any form.
Do you know how we can make it work?

    Thank you!
    Clara

    Hi Clara,

    Are you using https://wordpress.org/plugins/captcha-bws/ ?

I’m not familiar with its usage, but its documentation doesn’t mention BP Profile Search, so I assume it’s not designed to add a captcha to BP Profile Search forms.

Probably you can confirm this with their user support. Please let me know what you find out!

    Hi Andrea,

That’s correct, the plug-in doesn’t support BP profile search.

Can you think of any idea on how to include some type of protection against spam within BP profile?

I wanted to release the site but the amount of spam doesn’t make it possible 🙁

That plugin gives you a short code that you can implement captcha anywhere you want, I tried to add it at the end of the form but didn’t succeed as there’s no field type allowing shortcode.

I could just paste the shortcode on description for example but that doesn’t make it required to go ahead with registration.
    So didn’t work.

Any idea? Has no one ever complained about this ?

    Hi Clara,

I’m pretty sure the spam you get isn’t coming from BP Profile Search forms (they’re just search forms, they can’t publish anything).

You probably get a lot of unwanted comments, in which case you might add a captcha to your WordPress comment form.

Please let me know if that works for you!

    Hi Andrea,

    Thanks for your attention.
The spam are users. I am getting lots of automated and unwanted users.

I checked with my hosting and these spams are not using any back door, they seem to be using the front end and there’s nothing else on front end than BP profile forms that could make a registration possible. When I put the site on maintenance the spam stops.

Is there any type of field that supports shortcode?
If there is I could use the plugins shortcode to implement a captcha and problem would be solved.

In that case both BP profile and captcha plugin by websoft would be able to claim that supports captcha. That would be great.

    Hi Clara,

If you get unwanted user registrations, you should add a captcha to your registration forms, see:

    1. WordPress registration form: https://bestwebsoft.com/documentation/captcha/captcha-user-guide/#h.oddywvizeocb

    2. BuddyPress registration form: https://bestwebsoft.com/documentation/captcha/captcha-user-guide/#h.1wwvuzx3y1j1

To confirm that BP Profile Search is not involved, you can temporarily deactivate or even delete it, and see if the spam registrations stop.

    Hi Andreas,

For some reason the plugin I had downloaded didn’t show those options in the link you sent to me.

I have managed now, got the pro version that covers buddy press.

    I’m sorry for being a pain! 🙂

    Thank you
    Clara
